Captain Montagues

State Recognition

Captain Montague's B&B recently was honored as one of 3 finalists (earned 2nd place) for the Ohio B&B of the Year 2013 presented at the Ohio Hotel & Lodging Association's Annual Conference & Gala Stars Awards on Nov. 25 in Cleveland, OH. B&B's from all over Ohio as members of the Ohio Bed & Breakfast Council were judged by guest correspondences for exceptional customer service, unique features, memorable stays as well as other comments. We are very proud yet humbled for such prestigious recognition.

A Dynamic Duo

The Captain's and Chez Francois, an incredible French restaurant in nearby Vermilion, have partnered to provide transportation to and from each venue. This has been a request from guests here and at the restaurant. We are pleased to provide this service, but arrangements must be made in advance. There is a charge; that charge depends upon number of people and occasion. For those of you who have yet to have the pleasure of dining at one of Zagat's top ten picks nationally, you are in for an unforgettable experience at Chez Francois. We encourage you to check their website  The menu will make your mouth water. And did we tell you that the service is impeccable!

Biggest American Birding Week May 6-15

This is one of the premier events in our region drawing bird enthusiasts world-wide. The area from Magee Marsh & Black Swamp near Toledo extending east beyond Huron is considered the best migratory site in the northern hemisphere. Huron is home to 2 nationally-acclaimed birding estuaries, Sheldon's Marsh on the west and Old Woman Creek on the east (each is just 2 miles from Capt. Montague's--come visit "for the birds"). There are workshops and lectures throughout the week. Visit for a complete listing.

Looking For Lighthouses  2014

Come to the Captain’s and we’ll map out a one or two day lighthouse excursion that will take you 25 miles to the east and 25 miles to the west of Huron. We will provide you with maps and suggestions for places to stop along the way. Of course, Huron has its very own lighthouse called the Huron Harbor Pierhead Light . . . and it’s just a short walk from the Captain’s. Heading east along the lake shore, there are two others of interest; the Vermilion Lighthouse is a replica of the original and it can be viewed up close; and in Lorain, the Lorain West Breakwater Lighthouse can be viewed from the shore.
To the west of Huron just 7 miles is the newly renovated Cedar Point Lighthouse; it can be viewed up close from mid May through Oct. Driving west across Sandusky Bay on the spectacular Edison Bridge, you’ll spot the oldest, continuously lit lighthouse on all the Great Lakes, the Marblehead Lighthouse and its restored lightkeeper’s house. You may walk the grounds and view this famous lighthouse up close. Tours are offered, although it is a limited schedule. Just west of Marblehead in Port Clinton is the Old Pt. Clinton Lighthouse. Only the top was able to be saved, but it can be viewed up close. What a nice way to while away a lazy afternoon or two—a trip that will literally light up your life The Captain's room rates are regular seasonal pricing.
